iPhone: I have a user interface that people can easily understand and use. No more going through lots of menus and trying to access simple functions. Plus, I’m beautiful and people actually want me.

Windows Mobile: Uh…

iPhone: People stood in line to get me when I first showed up. How many stood in line to get you?

Windows Mobile: Uh…

iPhone: I have a real internet browser, not one won’t access most sites.

Windows Mobile: Look, I, uh…

iPhone: And widescreen movies look great on my higher resolution screen.

Windows Mobile: Enough. I’m going o home and wait for some mail to get pushed to me. Bwwwaaaa! Gates, why can’t you copy the iPhone like you did the Mac?

This is great. I’ll have to remember to link iPhonies to this. Kudos.

#3 Tom B 11.15.07

This is asinine. The features aren’t the point at all; it’s how well they are implemented.

IPhone: I have large beautiful touch screen. I offer the functions most people desire, and make them fun. People can figure out how to use me without reading a manual. Users love me right away.

Windows Mobile phone: I can do almost anything with my tiny screen and a zillion button, and third party software. I look like the space shuttle control panel and you need a PHD in nerdology to actually use me. Geeks love my complexity. Ordinary users might eventually learn to tolerate me.

You very right: The iPhone has as many shortcomings as it has great features that are NOT available on other “smart” phones. For me, the killer feature is that I can take advantage of ALL it’s features on a Mac OR Windows PC. When a Windows mobile phone can do that, then we’ll be comparing APPLES to APPLES.

That was quiet a nice conversation. WISH there was a link to learn more about the Microsoft CE OS based Phones in the market as well. Please provide links for the phones in the future, which might be of some help to the readers. Thanks anyway. Adios!!

Of course to be fair, you neglected to let the iPhone do a bit of boasting of its own:

- Thankfully my battery lasts twice as long as yours so I can go on browsing an phoning for another 4 hours after you croak it
- I don’t want to boast about my intelligence, but my Operating System is 500MBs of desktop-class Unix compared to your 40MBs (Windows Mobile has a totally different and far simpler kernal than Win XP)
- My screen is twice the resolution (480 x 320) of yours (320×240) and twice the physical size
- Mobile Safari revels in Web 2.0 apps and real web pages - Sorry to hear they make you choke (try running a corporate web app on the Blackberry browser!)
- I think you need to lay off the bagels - you’re twice as fat as me
- Don’t you think tacky plastic and chromed plastic buttons are so last year, haven’t you heard stainless steel and glass doesn’t scratch and is a heck of a lot stronger?
- Tell me again the hoops you have to jump thru to get software updates installed and load music, videos, movies, podcasts and games etc?

;-)

Disclaimer: I own a $1000 HTC-made Windows Mobile PDA Phone (O2 XDA IIs) and a Sony Ericsson P900 Symbian PDA smartphone and have supported users with DoPods and other more modern HTC PDA phones etc)

This is just about the basic iphone, exlcluding the wonders that 3rd party iphone applications can do :)
its just the matter of software upgrade :)
btw, push email is already implemented on iphone too :)
so is skype :)

and btw, why arent any of d iphone features highlighted?!??!?! shows iphone is modest :) it has much better things to boast of, rather than push email or bandwidth conservation :) and trust me, no other smartphone can even reach that level of user experience :)

NO other fone, can make people say WOW!!!!

iphone has MOTION SENSORS.. does any smartfone?
iphone has WiFi too :)
iphone has google maps
iphone has youtube
iphone has a million games
iphone acts as a webserver
iphone acts as a media streaming device over wifi
iphone has internet radio streaming..
iphone plays all NINTENDO and gameboy ROMs!!
iphone has dictionaries!!!
iphone has SKYPE!

what nots?
what does the DUMB smartphone have to say now!?!?!?/!

Siddy there are more types and choices for Windows Mobile. There isn’t just one manufacturer that locks down the SDK, even though it is out, how much has been developed for it?

A Windows Mobile Standard device doesn’t need accelerometers since it doesn’t switch back between landscape and portait. The Professional versions the one with touch screens do and can do it in every application. There are even addons for accelerometers if you really want one.

GoogleMaps big deal WM had it first along with WLM maps and it works with a GPS over bluetooth, which also does AD2P, you would think a Music player would support that, but that would probably kill the battery life…

YouTube works on WM mobile some out of the box others require a third party application.

Millions of games written for the iPhone? Really not last I checked. EMUs can be played on any platform if there is an emulator. Java works too on WM.

You can use WM for a webserver, FTP server, etc if you want to… You can also do remote desktop and control a PC, MAC, UNIX, Linux, or QNX box with VNC or Remote Desktop on either Standard or Professional.

You can stream media over WiFi, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSDPA, eVDO, eVDO Rev A, Bluetooth etc. Heck you can even use it as a remote if it has IR.

WM has been doing internet streaming for years, it also streams satellite radio from XM and Sirius.

Plays ROMS from Nintendo, Gameboy, Sega Genesis, C64, MAME,etc.

WM has voice translators and dictionaries in several languages.

WM has had Skype and other VOIP clients for years.

WM does have versions that come in VGA and XGA.

There are other options(yes options for browsers)on WM like Opera, Netfront,MiniMo,etc.

If you like what you got enjoy it. Find more things to do with it. Just don’t bash back and forth when you don’t know…

Learn from each other and evolve. The devices will hopefully their owners can too.

ok, iphone has tons of cool stuff to play with, so all the hippies and drunk college kids will enjoy it. People who are just looking to get organized, enjoy your smartphones.

I guess yall dont realize how easy it is to come out after everyone. take ideas and make them better. I actually had the iphone and i went back to windows. something about doing a lot more with a phone interested me. i started with google maps trying to find where the iphone went wrong. got lost, installed live search. the gps showed me the answer. it said if u come out with something without copy and paste, text message forwarding, u no the basics. sure i mean safari was the best browser i ever saw on a phone. but when itried to download something from it or save an image from it. it just wouldnt happen….gotta go my slingbox is calling…..guess u missed it

#12 ayoo456 12.27.07

sorry bout my comment i sounded like an iphone hater. Mr. #9 above got it on point….but for the record most WM phones can do what the iphone does and more.

In my opinion I phone wins the race with it’s 620 MHZ processor and long lasting battery.
But just think about it,

would you buy a phone that wouldn’t let you change the battery by yourself?

would you buy a phone that keeps everything secretive and won’t let you use third party applications? (we are in living in the age when we all share our knowledge for free, Mr. Jobbs why don’t you get patent for your phone and then let others modify it to their use?)

would you buy a phone that can’t be upgraded (in case you’re buying an unlocked phone).

#1, if you’re a kid you sure would want to watch movies on your phone, but we don’t need to watch movies on our phone as no matter how high the resolution is, it can never beat even a cheap home theater system.

#4, are you trying to imply that iphone is for people with low iq levels? Bro, we’re talking abouot performance here and performance and complexity go together.

#5, we are comapring apples and oranges here. If you wanna compare just apples to apples, then even a 4-yr old kid can do that for you.

#7 O2 XDA II and P900 suck, why don’t you compare iphone with htc touch, tytn or O2 atom executive?

#8, we are talking about cellphones here, not media devices.

#9, #10, #11 & #12, I like your way of thinking / I agree with you.
