The marketing gurus at Intel Labs have decided to rename the brand names of most of their processor chips to end the confusion.

Core2 Processors – Intel vPro and Viiv platforms will be known as Core2 vPro and Core2 Viiv respectively.

Xeon brand will remain the same, while the Itanium 2 brand will be shortened to Itanium. The Core2 family, as well as the Pentium and Celeron brands, will remain the same.

The Centrino brand will be consolidated to just two chips – Centrino and Centrino vPro. The existing Centrino Duo and Centrino Pro lines will be gone. Link.
