In this video,  Jonathan Ive (who is best known for designing the iPod and the iPhone) discusses the design of the Apple Macbook notebooks that are carved from a single piece of aluminum (unibody). The video also gives a sneak preview of the Macbook manufacturing process which is again very interesting.

I do know that it’s far from eco-friendly. Actually, this video is relatively old. Treehugger posted about this in November, and I left a comment there.

This process uses a LOT of energy and there’s a lot of waste byproduct left behind. So much for green.

agree with quikboy… a huge block of aluminum molded and chipped off just for a think sheet of casing? imagine the amount of energy required?
