   hi all,

   My computer has drastically slowed down. When I scanned for virus it reports an error saying that the host file is missing from location C\windows\system32\drivers\etc.
   I manually checked it. The host file is really missing...

   Also when I connect the modem, it automatically starts downloading something, i can see it through DU Meter. Its all red. But i can't figure out what is being downloaded. As I am writing this the DU Meter is full RED.
   Its urgent plz help....

   get a firewall like the Zonealarm free version. see what programs are connecting to the internet.

   else you may download process explorer from sysinternals website and see what processes are running .. if you smell some bad behaviour, kill the process.

   the last option is to start windows in safe mode.
