   Where should these be placed and how can I get the best out of them?

   HELLO Shankar ganesh you can increase more with link units.You place the link units right side of your blog or page.So most chances to get more clicks.Put them above and below your content or post.So it can be easily visiblw.After reading your post or content people are searching for more info on that topic.adsense is a content type add servece.so people those who wants more info about yur topic can click on link units.
