   Dear Amit,

   I wanted to ask you two small questions:

   (1) Do you have to pay service tax (or VAT) in India for the Google Adsense
   income or other ad income?

   (2) Do you have to obtain Importer-Exporter Code (IMPEX Code) for receiving
   ad income from Google or other ad suppliers? Is your income treated as
   export income?

   Thanks in advance. I was thinking of starting a blog; but, if even for small
   ad income, such formalities have to be completed, then it becomes a dampener.

   you will have to pay tax for Adsense if you earn more than 1.6 lakh per year..
   there is no need of any Importer-Exporter Code

   Thanks Aneesh. Perhaps, you are referring to the limit of Rs. 1.6 lakh for the Income Tax purposes. But, will the adsense income attract the Service Tax also?

   yes i was reffering to income tax!!
   you don't need to pay service tax for Adsense..
   That means you just have to pay your regular income tax..
   you can put your adsense income under “Income from business and profession” . If you do so,you can add your site related expenses(like domain registration,hosting charge etc..) when calculating the income tax.
   If you put the adsense earnings under "income from other sources" , then you wont be able to deduct your site related expenses.

   You will have to pay service tax if your income is more than 8 lakhs!. That is the exemption limit for the service tax.
   You don't need any IMPEX code. You are not exporting anything ..

   google is paying the service tax.We needn't do the same!
