Hi,
I have 512MB RAM in my newly bought Compaq v3424au, and RAM size needs to be at least 1GB for it to work normally. I found costs of nonHP Rams less expensive & the company person is giving 1 year warranty.
Please let me know whether I can go for nonHP RAM, without any future problems. Thanks.

My personal experience:-
Instead of using 2 512 MB RAM, use 1 1GB RAM. Even if you are using 2 RAM, use them of same vendor for compatibility.
Ram compatibility can be a real issue. Be very careful while upgrading RAM. As vendor may say that the RAM is compatible, but it may turn out to be making the computer unstable. I would recommend to buy one 512MB RAM exactly similar ( in terms of brand, memory frequency and make) as the one installed on your computer in case your computer has dual channel memory support.
Else, if dual channel memory support is not there, then sell out the old one and buy one good 1GB ram module and get it installed.
What is critical is to find out whether your machine can use the cheaper High Density modules, or if you must stick with the more expensive Low Density units.
Most suppliers can tell you this if you tell them what motherboard / chipset you are using.
