   I want to purchase laptop with these things to replace my old desktop.

   1. 3 or 4 gb RAM
   2. 200 GB+ HDD
   3. OS - linux because i will install Windows XP on it . i don't need Vista or 7
   4. Inbuilt good quality webcam
   5. Screen as much as big possible. I want to use as a desktop so i need big screen, no problem if heavy
   6. processor core 2 duo or AMD equivalent - I need speed
   7. graphic - integrated graphic is enough for me. I do not play games.
   8. DVD Writer

   suggest me only withing these brands because i will purchase from TATA CROMA on installment HP, Compaq, HP-Compaq, Gateway, HCL, Toshiba, Acer, Sony and Lenovo

   my maximum budget is 40,000

   1. Windows XP is a 32-bit OS, so it won't support more than 2GB of effective RAM. You can always use a RAMDisk extender to use the remaining RAM, but I think it's way way better to either shift to a Linux distro or Win 7 64-bit that can indeed make use of the full amount of RAM.

   At first glance, the DELL Inspiron 1545 listed here would satisfy almost ALL your requirements. As an added bonus, it also comes bundled with Win 7 64-bit.

   Also, take a look at these notebooks from HCL.

   An additional suggestion - most laptops have a video out port, so you can plug in your laptop to an external monitor that would be large sized and suited to your needs - I'm thinking 21" and above. So, you may even look at laptops with smaller screens and purchase as additional super-sized monitor that you can hook up to the laptop.

   If you intend to purchase the laptop from a particular store, I suggest you talk to the store reps there about items in their stock and availability because usually laptops available online as part of promotions or holiday deals MAY NOT be available in stores.

   whatever the configuration may be but purchase only DELL.
   because dell's battery life is so superb
