Email - I still can't figure out how to view Youtube videos on the Windows Media Player.

It might help if you download the YouTube video as an AVI file using services like vixy.net - AVI Video format supports Windows Media Player and almost all other media players.

Amit, this is off-topic but I want to share an email conversation with youtube team which I had few months back regarding downloading youtube videos. Here is the transcript:-

    /* mail 1 */

    Dear Sir/Madam,

In the help section there is no article that mentions whether
downloading videos from youtube through keepvid.com or other sites is legal or not?

Please reply giving full details in this issue,
    Regards,

    Hi there,

    Thanks for your email.

We currently don't support video downloading. You can, however, save videos in your YouTube favorites for future online viewing. To do this, simply click the "add to favorites" button shown below a video when it's playing.

    Hope this helps,

    Dear Madam,

My question still remains unanswered. I repeat my questions:-

    1. Is it legal to download youtube videos (whether they are copyrighted or not) using third party sites and softwares like www.keepvid.com?

    2. What If someone through their blog or website promote or describe how to download videos from youtube?

Kindly be specific to the question and do not just copy-paste paragraphs from help section.

    Hoping for a positive reply.

    Regards,

    Hi there,

    Thanks for your email.

Yes it is illegal, it is called stealing. People with these types of posting will have their accounts terminated.

YouTube currently does not allow downloading of videos. Further, services that circumvent our security in order to download FLV files are a direct violation of our Terms of Use, as outlined in section 4, "Intellectual
    Property Rights" located at: http://www.youtube.com/t/terms

"The content on the YouTube Website, except all User Submissions (as defined below), including without limitation, the text, software, scripts, graphics, photos, sounds, music, videos, interactive features and the like ("Content") and the trademarks, service marks and logos contained therein
("Marks"), are owned by or licensed to YouTube, subject to copyright and other intellectual property rights under United States and foreign laws and international conventions. Content on the Website is provided to you AS IS for your information and personal use only and may not be used, copied, reproduced, distributed, transmitted, broadcast, displayed, sold,
licensed, or otherwise exploited for any other purposes whatsoever without the prior written consent of the respective owners. YouTube reserves all rights not expressly granted in and to the Website and the Content. You agree to not engage in the use, copying, or distribution of any of the Content other than expressly permitted herein, including any use, copying,
or distribution of User Submissions of third parties obtained through the Website for any commercial purposes. If you download or print a copy of the Content for personal use, you must retain all copyright and other proprietary notices contained therein. You agree not to circumvent, disable or otherwise interfere with security related features of the
YouTube Website or features that prevent or restrict use or copying of any Content or enforce limitations on use of the YouTube Website or the Content therein."

I hope you now understand that we do not support downloading.

    Hope this helps,

Still, I find these sites available... and people using then and sharing "how to download" through their sites and blogs.
I guess Google knows this, then why doesn't it take any action against them?
