How to make an automatically updated post list?

I would like the latest posts in my blog to be included in my "Recent Posts" automatically.

I am using Blogger, but can't work out a way to do this. I am able to link to the Newer and Older posts, through the XML of blogger layout, but not to others.

    Please help.

I also want to hide some specific posts from my home page in blogger. Is there a way to do this?

    Hi Xaneem,

Adding Recent Posts to Blogger: Recent Posts can be easily set up in Blogger by using the RSS Feed URL (http://www.yourblogid.blogspot.com/rss.xml OR http://feeds.feedburner.com/YourFeedName). Blogger has an in-built support for this. The only restriction is that you can show a maximum of only 5 recent posts. The wizard in Blogger shows only 1-5 as possible options in the No. of Posts drop down box.

Just add a widget in your Blogger layout and select a RSS Feed type widget. Specify the RSS Feed URL and select the number of posts from the drop down box and you're done :-)

Hiding posts from Home Page: Well... you can change the post date of those posts to some date in the past and then they'll automatically get placed in the Archive of that month and this may help you not showing those posts on home page or in current month's archive list. You will need to chose a date in the past depending upon whether you have a Weekly archive, Monthly Archive, or an Yearly Archive. Hope the info helps. Let me know in case it doesn't work for you.

    Thanks,

Geek, thanks for that trick for recent posts.

But, I didn't mean this trick for hiding the posts, I knows that...
But what I want is to make an About and Contact Page, not posts.

    Got any suggestions for that...?

    Anyway, thanks for the tip.

    Hi Xaneem,

In Blogger you probably can't upload a file without making it a post.

You can however upload those files to your Google Pages account. It doesn't require any new sign up. You can use the same GMail ID. On the home page itself you'll see a section named 'Uploaded Stuffs' which will have a 'upload' link. You can create your your pages locally and upload it there.

You can use the URL of the uploaded files in your Blogger account. For example: if the uploaded file name is 'TestPage.html' and the GMail ID is 'testid' then the URL will be 'http://testid.googlepages.com/TestPage.html'. Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

  5. Hi brother ! There is no Official support for any of your wish !!

1> You can try some AJAX / JavaScript for creating RECENT POSTs , which can be customized ( No. of Posts etc. ) Google it ...you will find it .

2> You can't add About and Contact pages !

    But , Manual work can help u ! I have done this . Follow me : http://blog.Arpitnext.com .

I have created WordPress like pages .. actuallly these are posts in back dates ! ANd , then have linked them from main page .

To Create Recent Post in blogger , try above JAVAScript ... but note that a 3rd party site will host that code and hence , you can't rely on them .

If you are too eagerful , just create a such box with HTML coding ... on homepage ~

    @arpitnext

    Thanks for the info.

But the recent post trick by RSS is working nice... The only problem is the 5 limit... I'm looking of overcoming that somehow...

And I didn't get you when you said "..just create a such box with HTML coding..".
    What did you mean?

    Saneem.

    Finally got out the trick...

Thought I should share it here...
You can put up any number of recent posts, just by using the FeedBurner's integrated BuzzBoost(under Publicize).

You can even select to show some part of the post or the date. Thanks to Feedburner.

The recent posts widget which uses feeds to update feeds is fine. But it involves some wastage of Google juice,or say,in SEO way.

To be elaborate, the recent posts widget appears on every page of your site and this directs any google juice your page receives to feeds.Instead if you make dofollow links to the posts on your sidebar,it would help your site pages to get indexed deeply also increasing your site's crediblity.

So,though it would take some time to manually update the recent posts,it would definitely be worth the time spent.

Hope I am clear....if anybody needs clarifications on SEO,you can always feel free to contact me through the contact form on my site:http://www.sitegorge.com

    @RohitN:
You're wrong, but the automatically generated feeds link to your own posts and not to your feeds. So, indexing will take place of your pages without any problem.

Just take a look at the labnol recent posts:
    http://feeds.labnol.org/labnol/?format=sigpro

Manually updating posts are very time consuming, if you publish many posts a day. The more automated everything is, the better.

And if you were refering to the Feedburner icon on the bottom, it can easily be taken care of by just applying the style "display:none;" for that div.

I mean they actually link to feed and deprive your posts of PR juice.

Amit uses the Wordpress plugin which updates the list automatically. Those link directly to the post itself.

If you use blogger and want to show a list of recent posts, better do it manually.
