I have Pentium 4 (1.77 Ghz). From past few weeks, on start up my pc takes around about 4 minutes to be in a position to use it. I have 1.3Gb RAM. I have replaced the BIOS battery with a new one... But no effect. Its still taking loads of time on start up. Please Help!

Hey there are many cool tricks but the coolest one to stop extra running processes in task manager or stop startup apps by msconfig. You can start msconfig by start-> Run->msconfig->startup . Uncheck the exe files u don't want to open..Hope u like it

Shekhar : A few more details needed - what do you mean precisely by start up? Do you mean until the Windows login screen appears? or your dektop is finally usable? or after your POST (Power On Self Test)? 4 minutes doesn't actually seem too bad on the face of it. You haven't mentioned your OS so I'm assuming Win XP for the most part.
dnewstep's recommendation to reduce the startup programs by editing the startup list is a good one.

IF you have windows Vista then You can use a feature which will Boost your Computer Speed. All you need is a pendrive and then after Inserting a pendrive go to My Computer >> LOcation of the pendrive, right click and then go to it's properties. There you will see a tab called Buzz Boost. Just select it and then you have it going. :)

4 Min to boot a PC is not a bad time , infact the average boot time is arount 3 to 4 min...
If you need to reduce this..you can hibernate your pc and your PC will boot instantly(less than 4min) on resume...
