Hello guys,
I have been looking around at several ideas for starting an e-commerce website vs. starting a blog and running some type of advertisement on it. I know this is a very general question, but which one do you think will require more time commitment to get going? It seems to be a blog will require less time and money but that might mean the return will be less.
Any thoughts?

There are successful blogs as well as e-commerce sites. Both require considerable time and effort for them to be successful.
What matters is your idea behind either. And how well you support your site. SLowly building up a base of regular visitors/fans/users etc. is the main criterion behind a successful site online.

If you have a skill to create good content, you start blog. It helps to earn more than 5digit income per month. Hard work required.

In case of a Blog, a lot depends upon which topic(s) you write blogs on and whether you're actually interested in those areas or not. Maintaining quality content and regular updates will probably be easier in this case. So, do spend some time thinking about the topics before you really kick-start your Blog. BTW, quality blogging will also be fairly time-consuming.
Starting an e-commerce web site won't be easier either if you target huge success. Blogging is something which is pretty much dependent upon your individual hard work, but success of an e-commerce might require other factors to be well in place. Marketing/Advertisement will probably be tougher for an e-commerce site.
Well... as everyone else is saying here that both have their own pros and cons, but what I think is of utmost importance is what you're actually interested into. Going by that will probably make your life easier. All the best!

If your prime motive is to make money, then blogging is not the right choice for you. It requires lot of hardwork and you need to be very patient. For e-commerce sites, as geekxplains said you need great marketing skills and attaining good publicity requires quite a sum of money these days for faster success rate. Know your strengths and play it accordingly.
