if we have some content on a wordpress.com or blogger blog and we create a new hosted blog and copy the content to the new blog, does google penalise us? can we not keep the same content on two blogs?

If you dont do a redirect definitely it is gonna be an issue.
Read the following link to do it safely,

thanks for the link.actually i had a blog on wordpress.com and later self hosted it. i retain the wordpress.com blog and am getting reasonable traffic through google on the new blog. i have not made any redirects. is it that google has not yet detected duplicate content or is it that it has not taken note since a blog on wordpress.com is not a commercial blog (no ads) and they don't mind it duplicated.Or they are yet to discover it (its already 3 months).
here, if i may ask, how did labnol manage their content when they shifted from blogger to self hosted? do they maintain separate content on the two blogs?Posted 10 months ago # -

There is another related question: There are some sites like http://www.theinsider.com . Now these sites provide content from other blogs (those who sign up with them) and show all their posts and content with link to the original blog. Now , the same content gets shown on the original blog as well on this site. There are a number of content aggregators like these. What happens in such a case? I don't think Google is penalising these blogs as I have seen both the original blogs doing well as well these sites .

Google will not penalize blogs for duplicate content but the blog with original content will probably enjoy higher rankings.
