   Hi Sparx,
   I am in the lookout for a mobile device which will satisfy my internet needs. Following are my requirements
   1. Browse blogs, sites, forums and interact.

   2. Use IM clients like meebo and skype. (Javascript supported)

   3. Remote connect to servers and monitor them.

   4. Netbanking, paypal.

   I am looking to buy any device which will fit in my pocket (not laptops or tablet pcs ) They need not be mobile phones but they must be fast enough and reliable.

   3g is not available in my area. GPRS and reliance netconnect are available. My budget is 15,000 but can be stretched for the right device. Any pointers would be awesome.

   Will a netbook's form factor work for you? In that case, a Netbook will work well.

   If the device isn't a mobile phone, you'll need a USB dongle to connect to the Net (whether by hi-speed internet or mobile broadband [yep, they're different]), and NO portable device that fits in your shirt pocket exists to my knowledge that can do so (unless you've got an above-average sized shirt pocket ;-) ).

   Mobiles running on Windows Mobile might work provided they have the apps that you want for your daily use. Meebo is known to work on the iPhone and the built-in Safari browser is decent enough. Unfortunately, it's almost double your spending limit at this point in time.

   I was considering htc mobiles. Is windows mobile= windows xp. What are the limitations if any. A link explaining this would be enough.

   I have also asked a relative of mine to get me an iphone from US. Will unlock it. Your comments on this?

   Netbook is too big for my taste and unfortunately I only have an average sized shirt packet :( Any pocket computers? I have heard something like i-jam (I dont remember exactly.)

   BTW if you dont know you are a rockstar. This is the best tech support forum in India. (atleast as far as I know.)

   Windows Mobile is Microsoft's mobile phone OS. It is NOT XP. Applications built to run on one do NOT run on the other even though they are .exes.

   If you're referring to the iMate Jam and other similar models, they're all smartphones built on the WinMob OS. See http://clubimate.com for more deets.

   Like I said earlier, an iPhone provided it has the applications that you want and if you're comfortable with the interface might be a good idea. With regard to the Netbanking features, many, if not most Indian banks rely heavily on scripting and in some cases even java applets. Mobile banking sites that are secure and trustworthy are pretty much unheard of... I'd advise you to borrow someone's iPhone and first check if the banking sites will work well on them before committing to the device.
