Meta description and Meta keywords does not directly impact your SERPs ranks. But they can remain in the page just like any other element. Matt isn't keen on using them may be. :)

@techcone, they take meta tags into consideration while indexing. But I said that, meta tags will not help to get more ranking of Search Engines.

I don't think so, that Google does not use meta keyword. Surely google uses backlinks but does not stick to that. Google also index the sites on the basis of keywords also. My blog has unique keyword techcone and is indexed on that basis only.

His blog gets traffic due to number of backlinks. There can be any reason not using meta tags :)

Google and many major search engines do not take <Meta> tags into consideration while ranking a site. Its an old trend to use meta tags(but using it properly doesn't hurt).
Google search ranking considers mainly, link backs from similar niche etc. Search engine ranking algorithms are getting smarter and smarter day by day.

This is my opinion.

I am also waiting for Amit's reply.

Dear Sir,

Why Mattcutts is not to using <Meta> tags ?
Matt Cutts, the Search Engine Optimizer and spam king at Google is not using Meta Description and Meta Keyword tags in his blog . Is there any hidden secrets behind this? or he don't want to be in top position in Google search.

What is your opinion ?
