Yes i think It would be better if you No Index the category page as well.Because your category pages are Nothing But links to individual posts and it does Not add value on a Visitors perspective. And If a page doesnt add value Why overpopulate Google's index ??

I have No Idea Whether google penalizes anyone for Indexing the Category or other archive/tag pages In his blog. But In case You are using Webmaster tools then You can Get rid of annoying errors caused due to tag/category pages by No-indexing them.

@techlee : I think There is No need to Index Your Tag and Archive pages...Because the tag and Archive pages do not actually contain the content ...The actual content resides in your Single post pages.

To No follow and No Index I use The Ultimate No follow No Index Plugin.
http://kempwire.com/wordpress-ultimate-noindex-nofollow-plugin

If there are both tags and archives in a blog, which one should one allow google to index? I understand that it is better to allow Google to index only one of these . Is it true?
And just to clarify - how do you put the 'No Follow' tag in the other one.
