I run an Events page on my site that shows a list of upcoming conferences and tech events.

http://www.labnol.org/events/

You don't see these event notifications on the main site.

It is not because of Live Writer or the pings - it is just another SEO trick. The search engines have indexed it because the url is there is the DI XML sitemap -
http://www.labnol.org/sitemap.xml
which the search engines check for recent updates.

The advantage is that the pages will get crawled before even being published, and will result in better search engine rankings. It is noteworthy that Amit uses such posts for events and programs, and thus don't have to worry about missing the date.

Actually Amit uses Windows Live Writer. He scheduled publish time and publish the posts to blog. The posts wont appear up to the publish time. At publish time the posts get published. And Why the search engines crawl posts before publishing? The answer is At the time of publishing using WLW, Auto ping happened ( amit enabled auto pinging in WLW) and the search engines get pinged about new posts. so they crawl and index. But the posts appear in the blog after the scheduled time. But they are actually published. Done confuse about scheduled publish.

Xaneem ......thanks for the search link.....how did the search bots crawl the content before publishing ?

Does that mean the crawlers crawl our drafts and scheduled posts too ??

Well, but I could even see the post!!!s

http://www.labnol.org/events/leweb-paris-2008-web-conference/4788/
http://www.labnol.org/events/search-engine-strategies-ses-conference-2008-chicago/4609/

So, I think, the search engines will index DI first...!

http://www.google.co.in/search?hl=en&q=+LeWeb+Paris+2008+Web+Conference&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

http://www.google.co.in/search?hl=en&q=Search+Engine+Strategies+-+SES+Conference+2008+Chicago&btnG=Search&meta=

So, what I think is, this must be another of those SEO tricks!! Great...

From Html sitemap of Digital Inspiration at http://www.labnol.org/sitemap we can see the articles that are yet to be published.

For example i found a post from the Html sitemap
titled "LeWeb Paris 2008 Web Conference". which is scheduled on December 9 2008.(I tried to paste the link here but it didn't worked. You can see it from the sitemap page)

Now the point is : What if Mr A Copies your Article and publishes it before your article Hits Digital Inspiration's Frontpage. ? Will google index Mr A's post and treat your article as Duplicate ?

I am really confused.Help !
