@mfasil: Snagit is one of the "standard" programs that people who need to take loads of screenshots use. One might call it the "WinZip" of its category. Unfortunately, it's not free. But there are giveaways and of course discounts for an older version when the very latest one is just about to be released. I'd recommend SnagIT too but only for users who have a high usage rate and need to take loads of screenshots.

If at all you want to take screen shots for your blog in Win XP or vista ..

I would recommend Snagit ...

It's a great screen capture tool with options to add watermark and shadows to images and much more...

hi sparx,
thanks for all the links.
i found that the easiest way to do it is as explained in the wordpress tutorial. only that adding a class is not working since it clashes with other classes in the stylesheet and one has to add the border code on each image.
but that is fine and simple. thanks a lot

I found software called Pic2Pic that has batch file functionality, so a user can add multiple files for whatever operations need to be done. It's not free - costs $34.95, but it does have support for adding frames and borders.

http://www.pic2pic.net/index.php

http://www.pic2pic.net/support.php?act=how_to&chapter=add_border

If you're willing to roll up your sleeves, I recommend using IrfanView. It's freeware and also has batch file functionality. Here's a page which lists tutorials for 2 online options and for Irfanview too. No fancy borders or frames, though.

Also, take a look at the freeware PhotoScape.

Tutorial for using the WordPress editor to add a border to images.

Use Windows Live Writer, it polishes your image and content very well that looks good.
