nslookup does indeed provide me with my hosting server's IP.

I think I'll let things be as they are. I mean, the Yanks are quite correct when they say - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Thanks for all the replies guys!

when you do nslookup yourdomain.com whatever ip address you get that is your hosting provider IP.

Some domain registrar provide custom domain control panel. where you can set A, CNAME, MX ...etc. this will only get activated when you are using there name servers. so if you delete the A record there nothing will get effected.

If this is still confusing or wrong, ping back here

@Shodan: Form what you've written, I gather that the A records indicate the IP of the domain hosting provider (domain registrar), correct?

Therefore, as things stand, whatever details are provided by the domain registrar need to remain in effect.

Am I right in understanding this? Please correct me if this isn't so.

Thanks!

A Records is nothing but your Hosting Providers IP. In other words it is the IP of the server in which your domain is hosted.

If you remove this entry, site will stop working.

it is something like this:

domain.com A 61.1.31.12
www A 61.1.31.12

Go to cmd and run as follow:
nslookup yourdomain.com

Result will be your server IP. This is the A record of your domain.

If you site is on Blogger and you have a custom domain, then CNAME plays the important role.

While setting up a custom domain for one of my blogs I have deleted the A name entry.(this was actually the issue while configuring custom domain), I see that for all my sites the A name entry is deleted now...

I am not sure why A name is really required... because I haven't faced any issue without it.

Hi all !

My domain is registered and hosted by EuroDNS.
My site hosting is taken care of by another provider.
My email hosting is done via Google Apps.

So far, I changed the MX records using EuroDNS' control panel and everything seems to be working ok.

While I was there, I noticed a section for "A" records that was automatically filled when a new profile for NameServers was created.

Here's my question: Do the A records and the IP addresses present in that section have anything to do with the domain registrar or the hosting provider?

Follow-up: Do any changes need to be made to the A records, or shall I just let the default be?
