1. Windows XP is a 32-bit OS, so it won't support more than 2GB of effective RAM. You can always use a RAMDisk extender to use the remaining RAM, but I think it's way way better to either shift to a Linux distro or Win 7 64-bit that can indeed make use of the full amount of RAM.

At first glance, the DELL Inspiron 1545 listed here would satisfy almost ALL your requirements. As an added bonus, it also comes bundled with Win 7 64-bit.

Also, take a look at these notebooks from HCL.

An additional suggestion - most laptops have a video out port, so you can plug in your laptop to an external monitor that would be large sized and suited to your needs - I'm thinking 21" and above. So, you may even look at laptops with smaller screens and purchase as additional super-sized monitor that you can hook up to the laptop.

If you intend to purchase the laptop from a particular store, I suggest you talk to the store reps there about items in their stock and availability because usually laptops available online as part of promotions or holiday deals MAY NOT be available in stores.

Hi,

If you buy Dell laptops you have to pay Rs 6950/- per year for extending waranty for 1 year.Unless you extend your waranty DELL will not take any resposibility for your laptop problems (software & Hardware). So if you buy HP,Compaq even HCL laptops you will save Rs 7000/- per year.

Don't Expect such a standard quality of Hard disks, I bought Dell Laptop 1 year back,Exactly on 366'th day it became useless.

ya it's really Rock solid but FUTILE / BOOTLESS now.

1. product manual will not be there.
2. case carry in very worst quality.

REGARDS
R. Prasannavinayagan.

their action.
1. they will send again wrong product manual.
2. they will improper size of case carry which does not match your laptop.

I bought a dell Inspiron 15 recently from an online store Grabpc. This one works absolutely amazing just that the addition of Graphics like in the dell studio 15 could have been more helpful in terms of performance .. Nevertheless, the performance of Dell has always been good.. I had already used one while I was studying in UK and was pretty much happy with that too. I see loads of people getting on to dell these days.

Same experience as Sanjeev. I picked up a Dell Inspiron 6400 two years back and not had any issues with Dell.

If you require support they send an engineer to your location anywhere in the country.

Buy a Dell :)

Dell laptops in India are really good, you can use that for rough and tough purposes. Go for that without having and doubt about performance. I am using one Dell Laptop and got zero error.

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a Dell laptop in India. I know, the hardware is pretty good and rock-solid, but how's there after sales support?

Dell doesn't have any retail stores and the only way to buy is to order online or on phone.

So, how good is the idea of buying Dell laptops in India?
