There is another related question: There are some sites like http://www.theinsider.com . Now these sites provide content from other blogs (those who sign up with them) and show all their posts and content with link to the original blog. Now , the same content gets shown on the original blog as well on this site. There are a number of content aggregators like these. What happens in such a case? I don't think Google is penalising these blogs as I have seen both the original blogs doing well as well these sites .

thanks for the link.actually i had a blog on wordpress.com and later self hosted it. i retain the wordpress.com blog and am getting reasonable traffic through google on the new blog. i have not made any redirects. is it that google has not yet detected duplicate content or is it that it has not taken note since a blog on wordpress.com is not a commercial blog (no ads) and they don't mind it duplicated.Or they are yet to discover it (its already 3 months).
here, if i may ask, how did labnol manage their content when they shifted from blogger to self hosted? do they maintain separate content on the two blogs?

and to keep the feed readers intact just read the feedburner faq of labnol

When you use Blogger custom domains and move from blgospot to something like xyz.com, Google does a 301 permanent redirect - that means search engines know what is the new URL of the old web page.

However, your Google PageRank and backlinks will not migrate itself from the old to the new web page. So you are likely to miss Google Juice when switching domains.
