If you are looking to buy a new Windows PC or a Mac, Walt Mossberg suggests that you wait for some more time as both Microsoft and Apple are like to launch their new Operating Systems – Windows 7 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard – during the holiday season.
Windows 7 for Netbooks
Microsoft is also preparing a special version of Windows 7 for netbooks called the Windows 7 Starter Edition. It can run only three programs at any one time, and won’t allow any customization of the desktop or the use of Windows 7’s snazzy graphical features.
If you can’t wait until fall, Walt suggests the following PC configuration in his PC Buying Guide:
- Memory (RAM): 2 GB
- Graphics: An integrated graphics chip like the Nvidia 9400
- CPU (Processor): A dual-core processor
- Touch Screen: Windows 7 supports gestures so go for a touch screen if you can afford it.
